Sharing a document responsibly

Review the audience, permissions, and sensitive details before creating or distributing a public document link.

Sharing a document changes who can see its contents. Before you create or distribute a link, pause to check the audience and the information in the document. A short review can reveal details that belong in a private conversation instead.

Decide what needs to be shared

Confirm that the document is the version you intend to publish. Remove private notes, unfinished instructions, personal contact details, and confidential information that the reader does not need. Check material quoted from other sources and make sure you have permission to publish it.

For collaborative work, agree on who can approve publication. A draft can contain another person's comments or information even when you wrote most of the text yourself. Review the whole document, not only its opening paragraphs.

Understand public links

Vellumora drafts require account access by default. Creating and sharing a public link makes its published content accessible to anyone who has that link. A recipient may forward it, take a screenshot, or save a copy. Treat that possibility as part of your publishing decision.

Unpublishing stops future access through the link, but it cannot withdraw copies already saved by recipients. Do not rely on a later removal to protect information that should not have been shared. The Privacy Policy describes public sharing and account data.

Review and respond

Check the published document and its links after sharing. If you discover sensitive information or a permissions issue, stop distributing the link and use the available unpublishing controls. Contact [email protected] when you need help identifying the affected document.

For concerns about another document, follow the Content Policy or Copyright Policy. Provide the exact location and a clear explanation without sending unnecessary sensitive information.
